The production process
All papers accepted for the Journal of Advanced Nursing are edited both electronically and manually and emailed to authors in PDF form. This process will highlight various queries that will be sent to you in the form of a query sheet at the end of the proof. Authors are notified about their proofs by an e-mail that contains a link to a secure web-site from where proofs can be downloaded. This considerably speeds up the process of delivering page proofs to authors anywhere in the world.
Online production tracking
This is now available for your paper through Wiley-Blackwell’s Author Services. Author Services enables authors to track their paper - once it has been accepted - through the production process to publication online and in print. Authors can check the status of their paper online and choose to receive automated e-mails at key stages of production so they do not need to contact the Production Editor to check on progress. Visit Author Services for more details on online production tracking and for a wealth of resources including FAQs and tips on article preparation, submission and more.

The production process – FAQs:
How do e-proofs works?
The corresponding author will receive an e-mail alert containing a link to a website. A working e-mail address must therefore be provided for the corresponding author. The proof can be downloaded as a PDF (portable document format) file from this site.
How do I access the e-proofs?
Acrobat Reader will be required in order to read the PDF file. This software can be downloaded (free of charge) from the following website: www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. This will enable the file to be opened, read on screen, and printed out in order for any corrections to be added. Further instructions will be sent with the proof. Hard copy proofs will be posted if no e-mail address is available; in your absence, please arrange for a colleague to access your e-mail to retrieve the proofs. Proofs must be returned to the Production Editor within three days of receipt.
As changes to proofs are costly, we ask that you only correct typesetting errors. Excessive changes made by the author in the proofs, excluding typesetting errors, will be charged separately. Other than in exceptional circumstances, all illustrations are retained by the publisher. Please note that the author is responsible for all statements made in his/her work, including changes made by the copy editor.
What if I have no corrections to the page proofs?
If there are no corrections to be made to the proofs, you do not have to print them out: you could simply e-mail the Production Editor with the answers to any queries.
What if I don't have an email address?
Proofs will be posted to you in the traditional way if you do not have an e-mail address available.
After publication
A final PDF of your published paper is provided free of charge and this is emailed to the corresponding author shortly after publication. You are able to purchase paper offprints by completing the order form that accompanies your page proofs.
Online Open

Upon online publication, the paper (both full-text and PDF versions) will be available to all for viewing and to download free of charge. The print version of the paper will also be branded ‘OnlineOpen’ and will draw attention to the fact that the paper can be downloaded for free Online. All JAN papers are published online for subscribers as well as in the print version of the journal.
